A Thousand Lemons (Happy New Year)
Posted on December 31st, 2022

Artist: Torn █ Album: water ~For Relaxing Time~ █ Track: Entrance █

Hi, how are you today? (∩_∩)

Did you notice that audio player underneath the post title? I thought the idea of including a song with each blog entry was very cute. I am not an auto-play person — if you ever open a page here and non-solicited bleep bloops start playing, that’s not me! You’re probably in the area.bacteria next-door (very common mix-up) — so this is an optional little thing for you, and a cool way to set the tone. I love this tune as well.

I’ve been working on some website stuff behind the scenes. There’s going to be a bigger quality-of-life focus in the next few updates, including a proper, less jank mobile layout – this time for reals. Now that we’ve gotten over the initial hurdle, it’s all about the tweaks and structuring. Once I get more comfortable with JS, then I can start breaking everything again. ‘tis the life... ( -_-)>c[_]

By the way, I forgot to say this here: along with the RSS feed, you can be up-to-date with our updates via the Twitter account
That’s it for zona.plankton news as of now. Keep your eyes peeled!!!

For the past few months, one of my daily machinations has been to drink a cup of tea as soon as I get home from work. I’m noting this because recently I just finished my box of chamomile, lemon balm and passion fruit tea. This one grew on me rather slowly, but by the time I got to the end of the box I was already missing it. If your favorite Susumu Yokota record is ‘Cat, Mouse and Me’, this is the tea I’d recommend to you.

Now that that’s done, I’ve been drinking cinnamon apple tea — different brand than usual though. If you’re a fan of Soyo Oka (and you should be!) this is the tea for you. Compared to the regular apple tea I was having a while back, the taste is a bit fainter, but the cinnamon smells so sweet! My only complaint is the packaging’s real cheap; I’ve ripped off the top of the teabag twice now because someone at that company decided that buying all the liquidated material from the bootleg trading card factory down the street was a “real smart idea”, and “would definitely come in handy”. It’s alright though. (3)

Where I live, 2023 is only a few hours away. The last day of the year is a very special date because it only happens once a year.
I was never one to ponder much on new year, but as I grow older, it feels more and more like an important ritual. So I figured it'd be nice to have a little concise evaluation in this post:

Here is a list of things I did do this year: I got into college. I got a job. I made this kooky website. I kept chipping away at multiple secret projects. I started writing fiction. I have learned many things about myself.

Here is a list of things I didn’t do this year: released any of my (currently) secret projects. Made as much stuff as I was hoping to make. Became very smart.

Here is a list of things that I want to do next year: release most of my (currently) secret projects. Make as much stuff as I am hoping to make. Become very smart. Play a remastered Flower, Sun and Rain for PC. This last one is a big deal.

I feel great about the year that I’ve had. It didn’t live up to all my hopes, dreams and expectations, but I understand how it happened now. Regardless, these were my 365 days and I’ve lived through every second of them.
I am grateful that I’m here now and that I will (probably) be here tomorrow, with you and everyone else, and that I can try again for a whole other year!
I am extraordinarily thankful for your support, not only towards myself but towards everyone in your life, close and distant, whether you do it knowingly or not. It's easy to fall into banal platitudes when talking like this but it comes from the most sincere of places. I think about it anywhere, everywhere, all the time, anytime. It goes far beyond what I am currently capable of expressing with words, so I hope you can feel it in all the things I do, if only a tiny bit; I'll keep trying anyhow.

Thank you for your weightless kindness. I hope you have a beautiful 2023!

What’s good, fellas?  (•ิ_•ิ)b

The website is a little over two months old now! I’ve done a lot of thinking during the past 60-something days and this has resulted into a colossal list of to-do’s, that, on a positive note, I’m quite eager... to do.

A few people personally asked me for a darker theme, so I hope this update serves you well. I will keep adding more themes as we go on. This one is based on a few music tools that were made by Pixel; you can download these tools here. As a matter of fact, if you liked the songs about frogs EP I did with my bros t-sc t-sc t-sc and ERROR IN PROGRESS, you might even recognize the name =^0 Check it out!!!

Recently, I’ve also gotten a much better idea of how I want to approach writing in this page.

Even though I have only released three proper blogposts (this one included), I’ve written a lot more that went straight to the shredder, as a result of overthinking on what is useful/valuable information; I’ve come to realize that it doesn’t need to be that clinical. σ( ̄、 ̄〃)

As an addendum, I’m aware in some capacity of how redundantly stupid my grammar and sentence structuring can get. Some of it comes with the territory of having English as a second language, but I hope that in the same way that I can learn to draw or play guitar, I can learn to be a better writer!

For me, these past few weeks were really intense, but I’ve been dealing with it to the best of my abilities — because of some twisted logic, I feel more motivated. Y'know, when you have a goal in mind, everything else seems to stabilize. It doesn’t matter if I have a hard day at work, or if some college assignments start to stress me out. There's something I want to do; I'll hang in there.

Five Nights at Freddy's

I found out about Five Nights at Freddy’s in 2014, a few weeks before the second game came out.

My first experience playing it was at the computer lab, after class. Me and other 4 boys were surrounding one of the only computers in that room that managed to boot; we got the demo from some dingy mirror website, and with a horrific bandwidth limiter, waited for the game to download. Once it popped up in the folder, I slammed that ancient-temple-trap-floor of an Enter key.

As soon as the title screen flickered on, we had a realization: someone is going to have to play this. We looked at each other, waiting for someone to volunteer. No one did. After a few seconds of deep rumination, we wordlessly agreed: the most annoying kid will be the first one to play. His crime? Saying a lot of complicated words.
He nervously pleaded for someone else to take his place as we maneuvered him around like a F1 pit crew to sit on the chair, put on headphones, and start the first spooky night. He accepted his fate quickly.

Nothing happens in Night 1, but we didn’t know that back then. Every camera flicker would make someone jut out a half-second squeal. We moved the poor boy’s chair around like he was at a novelty 4D theater. But, you know, except for the fact that it was mostly a bunch of delusional dolts freaking each other out, it was pretty okay. The office power had ended only slightly before 6AM, so, as soon as the bells rang and the children cheered, relieved of his duty, the annoyingly kid left the chair. “How revitalizing!”, he said, with his really big brain.

But there’s still one night left in the demo. Who’s playing it now? Without any deep rumination whatsoever, they transported ME to the desk. Turns out I was second-to-last on the annoying scale!?
As the victory screen snapped back into the office, they were egging me on. “Turn the volume up!”. They yanked the cord and scrolled the headset’s embedded volume wheel to max. The 2 seconds of blaring hums and hisses at that stupid office made me panic. I had to think fast, real fast, so I frantically told them “YOU’RE TURNING THE VOLUME DOWN!”. Due to the adrenaline, sugar rush, and shared psychosis, they believed me and immediately zapped the wheel the opposite way. My crime was being a huge phony.

Even after actively paying attention to the game for the last five minutes, my panicking made it so I had no idea whatsoever on how to play. Night 2 is also when Foxy starts to come out. As soon as his head popped out of the curtains the simultaneous ‘eek!’ of the room hard-clipped my ears so bad they started to ring in subharmonics. Obviously, I didn’t last long at all. Even though I was hearing absolutely nothing, either out of my headphones or my now-deaf ears, Bonnie’s jumpscare startled everyone in the room enough to bounce eight meters up in the air. With that, we decided to call it a day and went home.

It’s 2022, 8 years after the game came out, and I got to beat it yesterday. I would like to tell you in a matter-of-fact way about how much it rules, but the only way I found to convey it is with a really lame anecdote. At the end of the day, any way you look at it, this game is a real miracle. So I want to tell you that if you haven’t played it yet, don’t. Play The Desolate Hope instead.

VERDICT: They should make a Five Nights at Freddy’s movie!

PS: A few weeks later, the day after the Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 trailer released, one of my friends who was at the computer lab that day told me all about the new footage during lunch break; a few sentences deep, while we were in the middle of a staircase, he stopped, looked up to me and said “dude, they put a lobster in the game”.

In fact, they didn’t put a lobster in the game. I have not found a single record online of a Five Nights at Freddy’s lobster existing, even as a hoax. The friend that told me this, as of October 4th, 2022, has no recollection of ever saying that. Maybe it’s out there somewhere.

I’m at the end of a project right now. If it doesn’t come out very soon, please post some kind eulogies, because I must have somehow died before finishing it. Of course, if that were to happen, I’d just come back as a ghost to git’er done – one last job – and your messages would function as some sort of life fuel that'd buy me some time here.

I hope you have a truly nice day today!

I Wish I Were a Bird

Hey, how’s it going? (っ˘ڡ˘ς)

First of all, a big thank you to everyone who checked the website out! Way more people than I expected were interacting with it, and that makes me about as jolly as one can be. I got a lot of nice messages too – some of them pertaining about how to make a site, so I’m thinking about maybe putting together a page with helpful resources in the near future.

I think a good schedule for updating here would be to do it every 2-3 weeks – at least for bigger changes (e.g. if I post a new drawing on an out-of-schedule day, I can just update with that). Feel reassured about the fact that I am confident about following through with this plan. And if you want to keep up with no worries, get the RSS feed here.

Salami Rose Joe Louis - Zlaty Sauce Nephew

My recommendation for today is Salami Rose Joe Louis’s ‘Zlaty Sauce Nephew’!

I’m sharing this one because, well, I only know one person who has listened to this other than me, and it’s my dear friend André

I have been listening to this album for about 5 years now, which is weird to think about. I know it like the back of my hand. These are 32 songs, but it doesn’t even reach the 1hr mark – It’s a sweet little collection of melodies and hooks. Some galactic wool tunes.

If you have some chocolate powder to mix with milk right now, do that, but also, do it in a glass cup. Heat it up for maybe 45 seconds, and take it out. Smell the outside of the cup, close to the bottom where some of the powder will probably accumulate. That’s what this reminds me of. Sitting too close to a CRT.

And if you like it, you should listen to her other albums. They’re all pretty good, it’s just that this one is my favorite.

Finally, here are the results of last week’s poll (as of August 13th):

The top 3 picks were a pretty tight dispute. In the first week, Osaka was in the lead with Tomo and Chiyo-Father right behind, but Kagura swept up in the last 3 days and ended up getting the 1st spot! Wow!!!

And as far as the least-voted go, I’ll try to be more in tune with all the Kaoris, Yomis, Chiyos and Sakakis of the world now. I hope I can give ya something neat from time to time.

Anyways — that’s it for today. Have a good day︵‿

Nothing Big
Posted on August 1st, 2022

Hey, how’s it going?
It’s quite likely that this is going to come out about a week after I write it, since that’s when I plan to release the website. How do you like it so far?
My assumption is that most of the visitors will be coming from Newgrounds and Twitter, so, for the time being, if there are any broken elements, you can send me a message through those. My knowledge about this web thing is not very big but I’m practicing!
I’m sure you can imagine how having a website would be useful, but, for this blog page specifically, my big plan is to be able to periodically share some cool stuff that other people have made. So...

ERROR IN PROGRESS - Ceiba Pentandra

<<My recommendation for today is ‘Ceiba Pentandra’!!!>>

I used to write album reviews when I was younger, and none of them were good at all. I think the most annoying aspect of a review is when you can tell the person is using words they have never used before; so this will be rather guileless.

This is a very visual and narrative album to me. Every track is a little piece of the story. Almost all of them go well over the 5min mark — so after a while, you start living inside the songs.

I am, by some unquantifiable metric, a little more blockheaded than the average person, in the sense that I’m kinda relaxed by ‘scary’ music. It’s to a level that, in theory, this would turn out to be a comfy album to listen to, but this album still sounds scary to me.‘Cerro Negro’ in particular freak me out. It sounds like dogs are mauling each other at some points. I can’t even see them. No one else could make these textures in this particular way.

With that said, I think this album is an example of genuine virtuosic ability in tone and cohesiveness. The music is already strong, but when you combine it with the album cover and titles, it’s better than most books. (If I were a good reviewer, I would insert some blurb here being confident and smug about my statement, but I’m completely right anyways so I won’t even bother.)

“My Face At The Bottom Of The Well”; “They See Me But I Don’t”. When you read all of them together, it’s almost like a poem. When you listen to all of them together, It’s almost like a story. When you look at it, it’s still a picture.

If you do all three at the same time, it’s hard to describe. I think it’s cool. (⌐■_■)

VERDICT: I would love to read an ERROR IN PROGRESS story.

PS: Here’s a free code for the album:

Go on to redeem it! It will show up on your Bandcamp collection. (⌐■_■)b

To close things off, here’s the first official™ zona.plankton poll, where you can decide which one of the ‘Azumanga Daioh!’ students (and Chiyo’s dad) most resemble you, or vice-versa. I’m more of a Tomo.

who fits your personality best?

I don’t want to make this long-winded, especially for the first post, so I’m ending it here.
Again, thank you so much for visiting! Making the website has been super fun and I hope I can continue to improve it. Also, you already know this, but lots more drawings and music will come very soon.
Have a good day︵‿

hey, what’s up? ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ
Posted on August 0th, 2022

thank you for visiting! take a look around – what do ya think? pretty nifty, right?

i’ve been meaning to make a website for a while – the idea came to me last year! but i only got my shit together to learn some HTML, CSS and JS a few months ago. since then i’ve been focusing on this, some projects on NDA, and of course, life stuff.
so far everything is fairly standard, but i plan to update it frequently. maybe a secret or two? i’ll never tell you where they are, though.

one last thing: the sidebar is pretty empty, right? where's the sweets and goods? well, if everything goes right, there should be a lot more content here until the end of the year. that’s right. so don’t come to me with any “why in the heck” until 2023.
